Antique mahagony Horse shoe mirror, possibly for an old Hunt Club or Bar. We are researching this now , at this time we feel it is circa 1800's. This beautifully carved mirror, with full detail shows the groove in the Horseshoe, caulks at the toe and heels, and has a detailed braid carved around the outer edge of the shoe. The inner side of the shoe is beveled. Made by a master carver..... This decorative piece may have also served as a hat rack ? It has 8 giant Horseshoe nails, all shaped, possibly used to hang something on. These Horseshoe nails stand out about 5 inches from the wood frame and are about 1 inch thick, they are iron. The entire shoe is 2 inches of solid wood (not veneer) and the caulks are an additional 2 inches thick. The mirror and backing have been replaced and are new. There were two cracks that had been repaired long ago, they can be left as is or have some better restoration if you prefer. The old varnish is in good condition, some yellowing and bubbles. Weight of the mirror is about 70 pounds. It measures 48 Inches tall, 41 inches wide, 28 inches at the openend of the horseshoe. You wil have to really hunt hard for a Unique piece as this, what horse lover would not want this in their home! We can ship this item by truck or you can pick it up.
